Weekly Note for Week Ending 5/9/25
Yada yada yada...clever opening line here.
Shokz, the headphone company most known for making bone-conduction, open-ear headphones, has come out with a new pair called the OpenDots One which clips on to the back of your ear and utilizes air conduction to get the sound into your earholes. They are $200, and apparently, they don't care which ear you clip each one on to. They'll figure it out once they're on.
I've been playing around with CSS a bit to get some of the styling for this blog down the way I want it. It's been awhile since I've worked with CSS, but it was fun revisiting. Here's an example of the styling I did for
.
"Tis better to have lived and have fought for one's beliefs than to simply sail through life unaimed." - unknown
I discovered Cosmos, an alternative to Pinterest (who seems to have lost the plot), and I poked around some. I haven't signed up yet, but their manifesto and look and feel are quite nice not to mention relaxing.
I've been using Canary as my email client of choice because it's part of Setapp, so it's already included in my subscription there. It's actually pretty nice, though I don't know that I've really tapped into half of what it can do. I'm not sure I really need AI much when it comes to email unless they can sort out all the spam I get bombarded with.
- Use that link, and we both get a free month of Setapp service!
We have also been catching up on "The Recruit" on Netflix. It's a really great spy thriller series, and I've been in the mood for action and spy thrillers lately. I've been listening to the Grey Man series on audiobook on the way to and from work, and it's been scratching that itch as well.
"Thunderbolts" is apparently the best Marvel movie since "Avengers: Endgame" was. The reviews are insane, so I'll need to go see it in theater, I suppose.
For the first time since getting my Oura Ring, I've received the notice that my Symptom Radar is showing signs of strain on my body, and that I should see how I feel and rest. This has been a good indicator for some friends that they're about to get sick, and it's a good time to start pumping the vitamin C. I'll keep you posted!
- Update: Turns out it was just because the AC was out with the power outage for about four hours that night. My body temp raised slightly because of that.
Confession of the Week: I've never watched Dr. Who. Like any of them. It's not that I'm against it by any means. I just haven't. What am I missing? Tell me!
Shoutout of the Week: Here's a big hurrah to Adam Newbold of omg.lol fame and @BBQ. Adam's site is partnering with @BBQ to match donations in their Giving Tracker. This is such a great use of the community at omg.lol and the internet as a whole to raise money for those that could use a boost. Read more about it in their announcement.
