Weekly Note for Week Ending 5/2/25
It's been a week, but not a bad one. Here's what's been grabbing my attention this week.
I've discovered 1001albumsgenerator.com that was suggested by another friend of mine. Think of it as a list of albums to listen to before you die. You can control the genres of music you get fed, as well.
I created my own Bluesky instance -- mostly to prove that it can be done. It was way easier than I thought it would be. You can add my little test user @matt.sarcassem.com if you like.
I took a day off work to get a few things done including having the eye doc check out my icky-looking red eye splotch in my left eye. That's the technical term, btw: splotch. I got Onyx a check up for his limping issue at the vet, and I got the car serviced as a couple suspicious lights came on. All is well!
New apps discovered this week:
- Diarly
- great diary app, and I've been a Day One user for a long time.
- EarthMemory
- Gamify your exploration of this planet by tracking where you've been and how much of the planet you've trapsed about
- Guava
- Excellent health tracking app that gives you a greater view into your overall health
- Mental Future
- CBT-based therapy app including meditation, soundtracks, and more
- Oura
- Great ring that tracks your activity and, for me most importantly, your sleep. I just can't wear my Apple Watch to bed.
- Sips
- Keep track of your cocktails, recipes, and more
- Diarly
I just wrapped up binging seasons one and two of "Lioness" on Paramount+. It's a pretty high-caliber CIA strike team show with a strong female lead. Written by Tyler Sheridan of "Yellowstone" fame.
Raycast launched for iOS this week! If you're a Raycast user, you can get 30% off your first month or year (depending on which plan you select on their website) by using code IOS-30. The basic uses of it are free, but to sync across devices or access their AI tools, you'll need a subscription.
- NOTE: The code does not work on the iOS App Store. You must check out on their website for the promotion.
I used to use NetNewsWire exclusively for my RSS feed reader needs, but since the launch of Tapestry, I've come to love it even more. Not only does it make for a great RSS reader experience, but you can even pull together other bits of the internet as well. Want to follow a specific Bluesky user or Mastodon user? How about a YouTube channel? You can do that and so much more!
Imagine my dismay when I realized this was not a payroll week.
We started watching "Suits LA" but without the added spice of a character like Mike from the original, it's just another legal drama. Don't get me wrong, Stephen Amell is great, and all, but they gave his character daddy issues too? There's a shake up at the firm, too? There's a female lawyer who is a person of color who has to keep proving herself too?
Confession of the week: I've discovered that I actually really like Sour Patch Kids candy. Like really, really like them. Why now? I was afraid that they'd be too sour, I think.
Shoutout of the Week: If you haven't had the pleasure of reading through "The Hiro Report," then I strongly suggest that you do so. It's a fun read, there are a lot of new and cool things Hiro shares, and if you're like me, you'll look forward to it every week.
